First Father's Day - Week 44

The Kirn crew

This week we all packed up and headed across the state to St. Louis for the Royals-Cardinals game. Ahead of going, Laura begged/pleaded/whined to Reggie so that Henry wouldn't wear any Royals gear to the game.*** At the stadium, Henry was able to make his own Fredbird. On Friday, Grandma Kathy had arranged for all the great-aunts and uncles to come over for dinner and to take the above picture. As you can see, they all donned Cardinals gear as a way to "stick it" to Reggie*** :) Also, everyone brought over a different toy for Henry! He particularly loved this light up turtle that plays music.

Great idea Grandpa!

***You can't change what's in a boy's heart

We were also dogsitting another puggle named Holly for the weekend. At first, you could tell that Henry was very confused, and couldn't tell which one was his!

Saturday was the game, and Henry sat with Aunt Jen and mom (Reggie was able to back into some all you can eat/drink seats). The Royals lost, as expected. It was perfect weather for a game! Henry loved it all, and stayed awake for pretty much the whole time. It was a late night, and he didn't hit the sack until 10:30.

On Sunday, Laura flew out for work to Chicago, so Henry and Reggie were left to celebrate Father's Day on their own. Most likely due to the late Sat. night bedtime, Henry was very fussy the whole drive back from STL. He and dad played together upon getting back to KC. After eating dinner and a bath, Henry went down for the night at 6pm! On top of that, he slept solidly until 7am the next day!

A look back to the beginning for Father's Day. Greatest day ever!

Developmentally, Henry has really developed a love for banging things together as if he were playing a drum. He broke Laura's bronzer brush, which she gives him in the morning while she gets ready. It's shocking that those things aren't made to be beaten against a bathtub! Also this week, while we were in St. Louis, Grandma taught Henry how to climb stairs. To add some foreshadowing for Week 45, this ultimately was not a good idea :)

Catching up with the girls - Week 43

Aunt Allison and Aunt Jen - Thanks for all you do for Henry! We couldn't survive without you!
On Friday night, we all went over to a neighbor's house for dinner and drinks. There were 8 people over, but one girl, Austin, couldn't get enough of Henry. She took him over to a pile of sticks and they would just beat the sticks against the deck, which Henry loved (he may become a drummer if we don't watch it)! Luckily, we found out that our baby monitor stretches the two lots between our houses, but just barely. So, we were able to put Henry down for bed, and still continue to hang out on their deck! Great night, right up until Cory went to refill the lantern fuel gel, and flames shot out like we were watching Back to the Future! These set Jill, the homeowner, on fire, as well as her new deck. Luckily we were able to put it out before any real damage or burns were caused.

On Saturday, we went up to St. Joseph to Laura's friend Ashley Albers' (Week 41 pic) home to visit, and to see her baby Kyra, who has been declared as Henry's infant girlfriend. Kyra is two days younger than Henry, but you wouldn't know it by looking at them since Henry is so small! I keep telling him he needs to eat more because a woman does not like to date guys skinnier than them! Ashley and Scott have a backyard pool, so we all sat around the pool and played with the kids. Great day, and great time (though I could have done with a little less John Secada music!).

I think that this is what the kids call "motorboating"

Two peas in a pod!
On Sunday, adult girlfriend Emily came over for dinner and ice cream. Emily did most of the caretaking throughout the night, providing her signature 'bounce' that Henry likes. It is amazing, Emily comes over, and we don't have to worry about Henry for the whole time she is over!

Dinner date!

D is for "Dada" - Week 42

Brian & Michelle Schnarre & Henry

The headline event for this week was Henry's first word. When Reggie came home on Friday from work, Henry, Laura, and Aunt Jen were all upstairs in the bathroom getting ready for Jazzoo (not Henry). As Reggie came to the top of the stairs, Henry looked at him, and shouts, "Dada!!" Then, later in the night while Reggie was making Henry's last bottle of the night, he crawled into the kitchen, sits up, and looks at Reggie and says "Dada" again (though this one was less "excitement," and more of a "dude, give me my bottle" kind of tone. He still says da-da to various other things, but we have all determined that he for sure knows that Reggie is Dada. Unfortunately, Laura still only gets random mumbles :) She kept going on about how she got gyped because she carried him for 9 months, and breastfed for 7, and this is how she gets repaid :)

Daddy's little boy!

There wasn't a lot of happenings the rest of this week. Laura took Henry to the pool on both Saturday and Sunday while Reggie did chores around the house. As always, our little guy loved every minute of it. Also, he ate it up that so many different people kept wanting to play with him in the pool!

At daycare this week, they apparently planted flowers outside, and they actually gave Henry a trowel. I'm sure he ate more dirt than he scooped! Also, he has apparently became a bit of a cleptomaniac. Trina, his "teacher," says that when the other kids get their meals, Henry immediately goes to work trying to take their food off their plates! Funny, the kid won't eat any solids at home!

All this fast crawling tuckers out a little boy!
Henry is officially a speed demon when it comes to crawling. You will put him down to play with some toys, and if he would rather be somewhere else (like Bella's water bowl), he will be there within 5-10 seconds. This makes it extremely difficult to make his bottles in the morning! Also, he has really taken to wanting to pull up on the toilet, beat it with some toy like a drum, and then try to flush it (hasn't gotten that down yet). Again, much like a dog's water bowl, you don't really want your kid all over the toilet, so that has become an every morning game/frustration :)

Henry 9 Months

Henry's aunt stopped by, and we even got a few pictures of them together as well :)

Pool time!!!! Week 41

Henry and his mama, with infant girlfriend Kyra and her mama, Ashley Albers
On Saturday, Grandpa and Grandma Bogart were back in town for a high school graduation. Unfortunately, Henry was extremely tired that day, sleeping all but maybe 5hrs. of the day! But he did get to spend some quality time with them, which was great! We all went to church on Sunday, but Henry was not into sitting still (as I assume no kid is when they are between the ages of 9 months and 10 years :) ), so Reggie and Henry had to hang out in the basement where he could crawl around and play with his toys.

On Monday, we all packed up (including Bella) and went to the Payne family pool. The water was still very cold, but Henry didn't seem to mind. The kid just loves to splash! Also, I think he was very interested in showing Jenni his swimming skills he learned from his lessons at the Y. After playing on the step of the pool for awhile, Jenni's mom took him inside to dry off and to change. However, Henry wasn't finished. After coming back outside a bit later, he wanted back into the pool. So, Laura stripped him completely down and let him swim around in the water. For legal purposes, no naked baby pictures were taken of this event :)
The first dip - feels just right!
Longing to get back out to the pool........

.........so I'm swimming naked now!!!!!!
Developmentally, Henry continues to be very interested in the dishwasher, and particularly the utensil holder. He continually grabs for them. You pick him up and move him to the other side of the room, and he is so fast, he is back at the utensil holder immediately! Additionally, he is starting to learn how to open drawers. When we get ready in the morning, Henry has started being really interested in opening the bottom drawer of our bathroom vanity. Laura keeps her makeup in there, so for a number of reasons we don't want him in there! Also, this week we got rid of the baby bathtub. Henry is loving all the room, as he can now play with a lot more toys!
Big boy bathtime!

A House Divided - Week 40

Leslie Welner and 'Gator'
This week had a number of big events, probably headlined by his attendance at his first Cardinals-Royals  game! After MUCH debate/arguing/divorce papers being served, it was decided Henry would wear his Royals top with his Cardinals socks. The compromise is that when we attend the Cards-Royals in STL he would wear a Cardinals top (Reggie needs to get him some Royals accessories/face paint). Aunt Jen came along with us, and we just stood the whole game and walked around. Henry did great, and loved seeing all the people!
Henry and Slugger! This might be the 2011 Bogart Christmas card (we will photoshop Laura in here)!

A family divided - note the Royals top and Cards shorts
Aunt Jen needs to get her allegiances straight!
Prior to the game, we went down south to the Deanna Rose farm for the 2yr. birthday party for Reece Lorei. It was a cowboy theme, and as you can see below, Henry loved riding the inflatable horse they had on hand! After the party we walked around the property to show Henry goats, cows, and ducks. He is still a little young to want to pet them, but definitely liked staring at them. For some reason, he thought the goats were really odd to look at!

Giddy up!

Believe it or not, we may have picked the gift of the party. Henry is jealous!

Kickin' it at Deanna Rose
On Sunday, we had Anne Pendleton back out at the house to take Henry's 9-month photos. Additionally, Laura had Anne show her how we could better use our own camera. As always, he was a total ham for the camera, and flirted with Anne the whole time :)
Laura took this picture!

Friday was Henry's 9-month checkup. His official stats are: weight: 18lbs (20th percentile), and length: 27 and 3/4 inches (30th percentile). His head is in the 75th percentile. The head size is probably so he can be stubborn like his mom and dad.

On Monday, we all went over to the Siffords for dinner (and see baby Jack!). Henry has started liking to pull up on the dishwasher over the last week or so. When April had her dishwasher door down, Henry promptly pulled up and pulled out a knife! Luckily, dad was watching and got it out of his hand immediately! It is amazing just how quick our little guy has gotten! You walk away for 5 seconds, turn around, and he has already caught up to you! Also, when you are holding him and he reaches for something, he IS quicker than you!
Going shopping!

The first goodbye - Week 39

Jenny Thompson and Henry
We went on our first vacation without the little guy this week. It was a 3-night trip to Chicago to see a number of friends, and to take in a Cubs-Giants game. As you can imagine, it was extremely hard for Laura to leave the Henry for the first time. However, she did really well overall, only crying once all weekend (and that was at the airport, so it barely counts). I give credit to the margaritas we had while waiting on our plane for calming her down. It was a great trip, filled with shopping, staying out late (4am!), and catfights. And it was cold. REALLY COLD. At the Cubs game, it was 40 degrees with a 30mph wind, and mist. The girls were ridiculous. Our friend Heidi was wearing socks on her hands, and we called Laura "Maude" because she was bundled up like some little old lady. Really, she looked like the character who is the "spokesperson" for Hallmark Shoebox cards!
Mommy, can I go with you?

Maude and Ethel pre-game
While we were gone, Grandma and Grandpa Anderson came to town to watch Henry for the weekend. We were extremely grateful that they would send us cell phone pictures and videos throughout our trip. Reggie watched a video sent by Aunt Jen multiple times during the weekend, prompting Laura to state that she thought he had a rougher time being away from Henry than she did (she was probably right).

Lucky for us, Henry saved his big developmental moment for until we got back from Chicago. He had already occassionally pulled himself up to all fours in a proper crawling position. However, once ready to crawl/move, he would always plop back down to army crawl position. On Sunday night he did a couple of very small distance "proper" crawls. Then, on Tuesday morning before we went to work, he all of a sudden started crawling on all fours for long distances!!!! Of course, we grabbed the video camera and started shooting.

Chalice and Laura

On another note, this kid HATES green beans. On Tuesday night we tried to feed him pureed green beans again. He had never really liked them, but this time after giving out a big "I hate these" grunt, he forced himself to spontaneously throw up/spit up. It was as if he was saying, "Seriously, mom, I hate these. Next time this is going on you!"

You have to bring your baby a souvenir!
