Week One

Sister Bella

Henry is a week old today and it's hard to imagine life without him.  It obviously was a week of firsts for everyone. For Henry, it was his first car ride, first introduction to his new older sister Bella, and his first walk of many to the Roasterrie in his stroller. For Reggie, it brought his first ever diaper change. For Laura, it was her first guilt-free drink in over 9 months! And overall, this was a week about getting to know one another. Henry struggled with nursing up until Day 6 when magically he got it! We think the lactation specialist at St. Luke's must have had some sort of special voodoo spell she cast, because after our appt. with her on Monday, all of a sudden he got it pretty much all the time.

The meeting of Henry and Bella went great! Bella occasionally will just walk up to Henry, sniff, and lick once, and then walk away. When he cries in the middle of the night, Bella will just look at one of us as if to say, "Are you freaking serious, it's 3:30am!!!"

The week also brought with it a number of meetings - Grandparents, aunts, and many good friends. One thing is very evident already this early on - Henry is going to be a very loved little boy! Thank you to all our great friends and family for all the support throughout the whole pregnancy and birth!!!

8.17.10 Introducing Henry Allen Bogart

Henry was born 8.17.10 at 6:52 pm, weighing in at 8 lbs 1 oz and measuring 20.5 inches.  We were induced at 9am and labor went fairly quick (thank god) so we didn't have to wait long to meet the little guy.  As most of you know I swore up and down that I was having a girl and I thought she'd be small and have light colored hair.  Boy was I wrong (as was our doctor)!!!  Waiting to find out the sex of the baby was the best decision we ever made.  It was such an incredible and emotional moment the instant we saw that we had a beautiful little boy!  We spent 3 days in the hospital; Henry had trouble breast feeding so we stayed an extra day.  This was fine by us since we had the most amazing nurses and didn't want to leave.  I tried to talk one of them into moving in with us.  =)  A couple of lessons we learned while in the hospital:

1. Do NOT take your baby with you out of the room! As Reggie learned, this tends to make the random nurses get very jumpy, in a "hey that guy is snatching babies" sort of way.
2. Get the drugs, ladies! While waiting for our show to get started, we overheard what we could only surmise was some sort of dinosaur giving birth based upon the yelling. Nope - just going natural!
3. The nurses are like the pimps of the hospital. They have all the hookups, and if you get on their good side, they will set you up with all kinds of good stuff. We rolled out of there with a suitcase full of diapers, wipes, etc.

Due Date 8.13.10

Well today is officially our due date and still no baby.  Guess we'll have to be patient a little while longer.  If he or she doesn't come on their own I'll be induced on Tuesday.  We're very excited and anxious for our little one to get here!  Hard to believe in a few short days we'll be a family of 4 (can't forget Bella)!!  The Payne's took some pregnancy photos of us at 38 weeks that turned out great.  Thank you Mike and Willie!!  Also have to show off the belly one last time - fully baked!
